By the end of K1, pupils should:

Develop love for books and stories

Recognize that print carries meaning

TERM 1: LISTENING, ORAL LANGUAGE & BOOK AWARENESS

Weeks 1–12

Listening skills, story exposure, and language confidence.

Week 3: Naming familiar objects in stories

Week 4: Story songs & rhymes

Week 5: Holding books correctly

Week 6: Turning pages (left to right awareness)

Week 9: Identifying characters (boy, girl, animal)

Week 10: Listening games (follow simple instructions)

Longer listening stamina

TERM 2: EARLY PHONEMIC AWARENESS & PRE-WRITING

Sounds, speech, and motor preparation for writing.

Week 15: Clapping syllables
