MSE— Motor Skills Encouragement Curriculum 6

MSE (Motor Skills Encouragement) Level 6 Curriculum for Ages 23–26 Months, Weeks 1–16 — structured into two semesters. This level builds on earlier mobility by refining control, balance, coordination, and intentional movement.

First Semester: Weeks 1–8  

Focus: Full-body coordination, balance, object handling, and expressive movement.

Week 1: “Big Steps & Little Jumps”  

- Activity: Alternating big/small movements  

- Focus: Stepping over soft obstacles, mini jumps  

- Objective: Muscle control and spatial awareness

Week 2: “Catch It, Roll It!” 

- Activity: Rolling soft balls and attempting two-handed catches  

- Props: Soft balls, bean bags  

- Objective: Hand-eye coordination

Week 3: “Run & Freeze”

- Activity: Start-stop games with music cues  

- Focus: Impulse control and timing  

- Objective: Listening and body response

Week 4: “Tunnel Time”

- Activity: Crawling through pop-up tunnels  

- Objective: Spatial planning, core strength  

Week 5: “Push, Pull, Lift” 

- Activity: Push toys, pull ropes, lift light objects  

- Props: Toy trolleys, fabric ropes  

- Objective: Upper body strength and directional movement

Week 6: “Clap, Stomp, Tap”

- Activity: Rhythmic body percussion with movement

- Music Focus: Tap to beat using different body parts  

- Objective: Rhythm + motor blend

Week 7: “Walk the Line” 

- Activity: Walk on floor tape lines, zig-zag paths  

- Objective: Balance, precision foot placement  

Week 8: Review Showcase & Free Movement Day 

- Activity: Mini movement obstacle course + dance circle  

- Objective: Assess progress & enjoy freedom of motion

Focus: Precision, endurance, movement patterns, and gross-to-fine transition.

Week 9: “Scoot, Slide, Glide” 

- Activity: Mat scooting, side sliding, toy car pushing  

- Objective: Lateral movement & core coordination  

Week 10: “Step Up, Step Down” 

- Activity: Step boxes, stools with adult guide  

- Focus: Balance, foot control  

- Safety: Foam blocks or padded risers  

Week 11: “Rhythm Parade”

- Activity: Marching, drumming while moving  

- Props: Toy drums, shakers  

- Objective: Synchronizing motion with music  

Week 12: “Stretch & Reach” 

- Activity: High-reaching activities, climbing pads  

- Objective: Body extension and vertical control  

Week 13: “Wheel It!”

- Activity: Rolling scooters, ride-on toys  

- Objective: Coordination and navigation  

Week 14: “Move Like Animals”

- Activity: Imitate animals (frog jumps, bear crawls)  

- Objective: Build imagination with physical control  

Week 15: “Follow the Beat”
